SAN DIEGO - The sixth-ranked San Diego State Aztec water polo team defeated local rival UC San Diego, 7-6, in a quadruple-overtime game at Canyonview Pool on Wednesday.
The score was tied 6-6 after UC San Diego's Dara Burch's goal with just under a minute to play in regulation. The game was sent into overtime and what followed was three scoreless periods for both teams. The game ended on a sudden-death score by Sara Hanneman at the 2:19 mark of the fourth overtime period. SDSU improved its record to 19-15 on the season.
Hanneman and Wendy Jensen each scored three goals for the Aztecs. All-MPSF Conference 1st-Team selection Larisa Baltgalvis scored one bringing her total for the season to a school-record 89.
SDSU returns to action at the National Qualifications April 23-25 at UC San Diego. The pairings have not been announced.
