SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State womens water polo team, ranked sixth in the nation this week, fell to #2-ranked Stanford, 6-2, in a match played today at Bud Kearns Pool in Balboa Park. The loss dropped the Aztecs season record to 15-10 (2-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation). Stanford improved to 13-2 overall and remained atop the MPSF with a perfect 6-0 mark.
The Cardinal used a four-goal third quarter to break open a tight contest. After Stanford had forged a 2-0 lead in the second period, SDSUs Larisa Baltgalvis scored to cut Stanfords lead to 2-1 at the half. The Cardinal extended that lead to 6-1 at the end of three periods with SDSUs final goal coming courtesy of Sara Hanneman in the final quarter.Goalkeeper Curran Teigen made four saves for the Aztecs
San Diego State concludes its 1999 home schedule with a match on Saturday, March 27, against tenth-ranked San Jose State at Bud Kearns Pool at 11:00 a.m.
