SAN DIEGO -
The first round of the inaugural Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship began today at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. Colorado State and BYU are tied for the lead as each scored a 310 for the first 18-holes of the 54-hole tournament. San Diego State finished the day five shots behind the leader with a 315 and are in fourth place. Despite trailing the leaders, the Aztecs had moderate success putting, sinking ten birdies in the tournament which is a team-high after day one.
Sophomore, Asa Jankler led SDSU by firing a four-over-par 76 which includes a tournament-high four birdies. Jankler is tied for third and sits just four strokes back from BYU's Carrie Summerhays who shot an even-72 for the day's lowest round.
Also among the top 10 for the Aztecs is Heather Rollo, who ended the day tied for ninth with a score of 78. Jill Janotta is tied for 12th place carding a 79. Freshman Jennifer Hoene shot an 82 while Joanne Clingan finished with an 83.
The MWC championship tournament continues tomorrow with the second round while the final 18-holes will be played on Wednesday. Tee time for round-two is schedule at 8:00 a.m. (MST).
