SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's water polo team takes its No. 6-ranking on the road when it heads north to San Jose, Calif., for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted by San Jose State Friday, April 7th through Sunday, April 9th.
San Diego State, 7-11 overall, is seeded sixth in the tournament after a 4-5 finish in conference play this season. California is the No. 1 seed followed by UCLA at No. 2 and Stanford at No. 3.
The Scarlet and Black will be led by seniors Larisa Baltgalvis and Curran Teigen. Baltgalvis has found the back of the net 41 times this season and is SDSU's all-time leading scorer with 212 goals. Teigen, the Aztecs' goalkeeper, has a goals-against average of 5.62 and averages 8.26 saves a game.
"We're hoping to break into the top four this weekend," said San Diego State head coach Carin Crawford. "We have the potential to pull of an upset this weekend if we stay focused and concentrate on our defense."
The Aztecs open play on Friday afternoon at 12:55 p.m., versus top-ranked UCLA. The Aztecs also face Hawai`i at 5:15 p.m., on Friday. On Saturday, SDSU takes on Stanford at 10:45 a.m. and Pacific at 3:05 p.m. The Scarlet and Black's final game will be on Sunday with the time and opponent determined by results from the first round of competition.
