The 2000 San Diego State women's water polo team finished the season with an 18-16 record overall and a sixth-place finish at the Collegiate National Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
Although SDSU had a slow start in the early going, the 2000 squad finished the season by winning 10 of its last 13 contests. Playing in the toughest conference in the nation, the Aztecs finished 4-5 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and finished fifth at the MPSF Championships in April.
The Aztecs were led by seniors Larisa Baltgalvis, Curran Teigen and Megan Dunbar as all three left their marks on the SDSU record books. Baltgalvis leaves Montezuma Mesa as the Aztecs' all-time leading scorer and leader in assists. Teigen, a goalkeeper, holds the school record for career saves and Dunbar is tops in steals in a career.
Several team members garnered awards in 2000, including first-team All-MPSF accolades for Baltgalvis and All-Southern California Region honors for Baltgalvis and Teigen. Freshman Amber Prestegard - who had the second highest goal total for a freshman - was named second team all-region.
