LA JOLLA, Calif. - San Diego State women's water polo swept both games at the UCSD Mini Tourney on Sunday, as they sunk Princeton 9-6 in the morning game and then beat UCSD 5-4 later on that afternoon.
Holly Hartzell and Casey Finnegan led the Aztecs with two goals each in their win over the Princeton Tigers. Heather Stiles notched eight saves in goal as the Aztecs held a 5-3 lead at the half.
Beth Merlo, Dominique Delgado, Jackie Lopez, Amber Prestegard, and Donna Stivers each scored one goal in the win.
In the later game, Delgado scored the game-wining goal in the fourth quarter to break the 4-4 tie and give the Aztecs their second win for the day. Hartzell and Prestegard scored two goals each and goalkeeper Stiles recorded 10 saves against the Tritons.
The wins improve the Aztecs to 13-8, 3-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Aztecs return home to host Cal State Northridge for a MPSF match-up on Thursday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Bud Kerns Pool.
