SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. - The San Diego State water polo team came up short during the second day of action at the UCSB Gaucho Invitational on Sunday as they dropped two games.
The Aztecs fell to sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount 7-5 in the morning game and then lost to seventh-ranked Long Beach State 6-3 later that afternoon. The Aztecs finished the tournament 1-3, capturing eighth place out of a field of sixteen teams.
Casey Finnegan and Dominique Delgado had two goals each, and Holly Hartzell had one against the Lions. The Aztecs found themselves tied at the half, but were unable to take the win despite 10 saves by goalie Heather Stiles.
Delgado added two more goals in the later game, and Stiles recorded 11 more saves, but it wasn't enough as the Aztecs were never able to take the lead from the 49ers. Katie Clark scored the other goal for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs (5-6) return to action on Wednesday at Bud Kerns Pool when they host thirteenth-ranked Michigan. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
