SAN DIEGO - The sixth-ranked San Diego State women's water polo fell to No. 11 Hawaii, 11-10, Thursday afternoon in a heated Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Bud Kerns Pool in Balboa Park.
Dominique Delgado led the Aztecs scoring total with five goals, one steal and one assist, as well as drawing a foul setting up a penalty shot taken by teammate Amber Prestegard. Prestegard scored twice for the Aztecs, with Casey Finnegan and Holly Hartzell each scoring once.
San Diego State (14-11, 5-6 MPSF) opened the match scoring first on a goal by Delgado, but the Wahine Warriors were able to gain a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Aztecs tied things up at the half, but were unable to stop Hawaii's Karin van Hoff as she led the Wahine Warriors with seven goals, including the game winner.
Thursday's match was the last home game for the Aztecs this season. San Diego State will travel to the Long Beach State campus this weekend to compete in The Beach Women's Water Polo Invitational Saturday and Sunday. They are set to face the Long Beach State "B" team Saturday morning and will then advance to pool play.
