SAN DIEGO - San Diego State dropped an 8-3 decision to undefeated and No. 1 ranked USC at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center on Friday. The Women of Troy used a 4-0 second quarter to build a 7-1 halftime lead. The Aztecs had a 2-1 advantage in the second half but could not get within striking range. No. 5 SDSU falls to 18-6 on the season and 7-3 in the MPSF, while USC is now 18-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
Dominique Delgado scored the first SDSU goal with 4:37 in the first quarter to tie the score, but USC rolled off six unanswered goals before the intermission. Sandy Onweller than recorded two third quarter goals to finish the scoring for SDSU to give the final margin as the defenses took over in a scoreless fourth period.
Other than her score, Delgado added an assist and four steals in the match. Onweller and Rachel Serna also recorded assists.
The Aztecs finish their conference season with a 10 a.m. matchup on Saturday, April 10, at the Kroc Center against UC Santa Barbara.
