SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's eighth-ranked water polo team (2-0) went undefeated in pool play Saturday at the UCSD Invitational beating Cal State Bakersfield, 11-4, and 13th-ranked UC Davis, 9-5. The Aztecs won their pool as a result of their two wins and advanced to the championship pool along with Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount.
In the victory over Cal State Bakersfield, SDSU was led by Rachel Serna's four goals and Ashley Reta's three. For the game, five different Aztecs scored and seven had at least one assist.
Serna continued her scoring production in the second game of the day versus UC Davis. The junior from Coronado netted three more goals to help lead the Aztecs to victory. Co-captain Savanah Kelley chipped in with a goal and recorded four steals to seal the win.
SDSU returns to action Sunday when it faces No. 5 Long Beach State at 1:30 p.m. and then follows it up with a game against No. 4 Loyola Marymount at 5:50 p.m. Both games are scheduled to take place at Canyonview Pool on the campus of UC San Diego.
