STOCKTON, Calif. - San Diego State's water polo team notched its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation victory of the season by defeating Pacific, 6-5, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. It is the first road win of the season for the Aztecs who improve to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the MPSF.
SDSU, who found itself down 2-0 after one quarter, received second quarter goals from co-captain Savanah Kelley and Ashley Reta to knot the game at 2-2.
In the third, the Aztecs took a 4-3 lead thanks to goals from Ashley McCullum and Cassie Zebisch.
Later, at the 6:23 mark of the fourth quarter, a penalty was called on Pacific's Virginia McConnell that eventually led to Rachel Serna's penalty goal. The junior's goal put SDSU up 5-4 and a lead it would not relinquish.
About a minute later, Stacy Werner found the back of the net to give the Aztecs a 6-4 advantage. The Tigers ended up scoring one more time to give the game its final score.
For the day, six different Aztecs scored and goalie Sarah Kilgore made nine saves.
