SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Rachel Serna has been named a third-team All-American as announced by the American Water Polo Coaches Association. She becomes the 12th Aztec in the program's 11-year history to receive the national honor.
This is the first All-America honor for the driver, who led SDSU in goals scored this season with 65. Her 65 goals in a single season ranks eighth all time in program history and was fourth nationally. Serna also had the highest goal shooting percentage of all Aztecs, making 42.5 percent of her shots (min. 50 attempts).
Serna, who hails from Coronado, was also named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa player of the week on April 25th after scoring seven goals on 4-of-8 shooting in SDSU's last two regular-season contests against UC San Diego and Arizona State.
In addition to her player of the week award, the junior was a 2005 all-MPSF honorable mention honoree as selected by the league's coaches.
SDSU finished the season ranked 11th, posting a 16-18 record overall (3-9 MPSF).
