SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's water polo head coach Carin Crawford announced today the signing of Danielle Pelke to a National Letter of Intent. Pelke will join the Aztecs in the fall of 2006.
Pelke, a driver from Los Alamitos High School, enters her senior season as a three-year varsity starter under head coach Dave Carlson. She was a member of a Griffin squad that has won the last three Sunset League titles and has helped guide her team to the 2003 CIF semifinals and a pair of quarterfinal appearances each of the last two seasons.
Pelke is also an accomplished club player as her team, SoCal Water Polo Club, finished first at the 2004 U16 Junior Olympics. This past summer while on the U18 team, Pelke guided her team to a fourth place showing at the Junior Olympics.
"Danielle will be a great asset for us," Crawford said, "She has great speed, quickness and anticipation in the transition game. She has high-level water polo experience both in high school and club and I believe she will have a breakout season for Los Alamitos this year."
The Aztecs open the 2006 season with its Alumni game on Jan. 28 at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. The annual event is scheduled for a noon start. SDSU opens the regular season Feb. 11-12 at the UCSD Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
