SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher
On the game:
"I think if I'm giving a game ball tonight, I'm giving it to (assistant coach) Brian Dutcher. I told them everything we were doing and not doing on a stat sheet and Dutch said, `Coach, it's like there's no defense. They're (UNLV) moving the ball anywhere they want. We have to get out there an pressure the swing pass.' We had to change how were guarding. He planted the seeds and the players did a wonderful job of carrying it out. That was the difference in the game.
"It was a really good win and the stats show guys like Marcus (Slaughter) having a great game, which he did, and you can go down the list to (Mohamed) Camara who made a couple big plays at crunch time. We win as a team and I think they believe it too and don't really care who gets the minutes. It was a good win for us."
San Diego State Guard Brandon Heath:
On the team's performance:
"Guys like Mohamed (Camara) and Marcus (Slaughter) made big plays tonight and it is a reflection of what we do in practice. All the hard work that we do in practice is really paying off on the court."
On Marcus Slaughter's performance:
"Twenty-twenty. I've never played with someone on the same team that has had that type of performance before. It isn't surprising, Marcus is a beast on the boards and he does what he does best."
On last year's home loss to UNLV:
"We forgot about that loss against UNLV at home because what is in the past, is in the past and we've moved on from that. We came here to take care of business tonight and we did just that."
San Diego State Forward Marcus Slaughter
On his performance:
"I'm out of the slump. It's about time I produced numbers like these. It is surprising getting 20 rebounds and 20 points, but rebounding is what I do to help the team and it's about time."
On rebounding from the Utah game:
"Utah did a great job on defense. It was a tough game and it was a tough place to play. I wanted to come back and have an outstanding performance. Our goal tonight was to keep them off the glass and Amundson still got 10 rebounds, but I helped out on defense, posted up and provided an inside presence for the team."
San Diego State Center Mohamed Camara
On his performance:
"Coach (Fisher) has been helping me on my game. I have to do what I do best and provide a body on the inside and work the low post."
UNLV Head Coach Lon Kruger
On the game:
"San Diego State did a really good job of coming out in the second half and turning it up in the second half. That got us on our heels a little bit. I thought they seized the momentum right there. We have to respond with more toughness and they had their way with us in the second half."
