STANFORD, Calif. - The 13th-ranked San Diego State doubles team of senior Benedikt Stronk (Berlin, Germany) and junior Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany) kept their magical season alive on Friday with a second-round upset over fourth-seeded Raian Luchici and Brad Pomeroy of North Carolina, 6-1, 6-4, at the NCAA Doubles Championships in Stanford, Calif. As a result of their victory, Stronk and Dickhardt earned All-America honors, becoming the first Aztec tandem to garner such distinction since Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo in 2003.
"I am extremely proud of what these guys have been able to accomplish this season and in the tournament," said SDSU head coach Gene Carswell. "It is indeed a very special day for both players and our program."
The Aztec pair will face the sixth-ranked duo of Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee State on Saturday at Stanford University's Taube Tennis Center, starting at 1 p.m. Born and Siljestrom dispatched Illinois' Pramod Dabir and Ryler DeHeart in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, on Friday.
