SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's tennis head coach Gene Carswell announced the signing Tuesday of Andre Feliz to a National Letter of Intent for the 2007-08 season. The San Gabriel, Calif., native chose SDSU for its top tennis program as well as its top film program.
"We are very excited about the addition of Andre to our program," Carswell said. "We think he is a player who has tremendous upside, and he will be a great addition to the squad."
Feliz, who currently attends San Gabriel High School, is ranked among the top 25 tennis players under 18 in Southern California for singles play according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Nationally, the San Gabriel High senior is ranked at 151 and is one of the top doubles players in Southern California.
At the Wilson Junior Championships in October, Feliz won the consolation singles draw and advanced to the semifinals in doubles competition. Since December 2005, the high school senior has compiled a 39-17 singles record.
After a successful fall tournament season, SDSU will look to continue its success when it plays host to the Aztec Invitational, Jan.12-14, at Aztec Tennis Center.
