Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out but was unable to come up with a tying run in a 1-0 loss to UNLV Sunday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs, who left eight runners on base a day after stranding 11 in a 5-3 win over the Rebels (35-25, 10-6 MWC), fell to 30-22 overall and 6-10 in league play.

Senior Christy Hollingshead (San Jose, Calif.) led off the seventh with a walk and was replaced by freshman Katy Erickson (Tustin, Calif.). Erickson advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Christine Kulick (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and an UNLV throwing error but, on the ensuing at-bat, was thrown out at home on a bunt by senior Amanda Beasley (San Diego/Mount Miguel HS). Freshman Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) followed with a walk to load the bases with one out. SDSU was unable to get the tying run across, however, as Rebel pitcher Christie Robinson (13-5) got junior Tamani Wells (Concord, Calif.) to ground into a 3-2-4 double play.

Freshman Lindsey Marquez (Tustin, Calif.) had two of the Aztecs' four hits in the game, including a double in the second inning. Beasley, who was competing in her last regular season home game along with Hollingshead, added a one-out double in the fifth.

Junior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) (21-12) allowed just one run, which came on a two-out double to Kendall Fearn in the first, on five hits over seven innings. She struck out 11 without issuing a walk.

San Diego State travels to the Beehive State next weekend for a pair of games against Utah and Brigham Young. The Aztecs play a doubleheader against the Utes at 2 p.m. MT Thursday before taking on the first-place Cougars at 6 p.m. MT Friday and 2 p.m. MT Saturday.
