SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.) shot a two-over 74 on Friday to finish in a tie for sixth place with an overall even par score of 288 at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand. Goldberg, who entered the day tied for the tournament lead, finished seven shots back of Ming-chuan Chen of Chinese Taipei.
Goldberg, SDSU's first PING All-American since 2001, tied fellow teammate Ryan Brehm of Michigan State for the highest finish by an American at this Olympic-style competition.
"This was a tremendous experience for Aaron to not only represent his country overseas, but also San Diego State," Aztec men's golf coach Ryan Donovan said. "I was pleased to see that he was in contention throughout the tournament against some great competition."
Goldberg began the competition by carding his best round of the event, a two-under 70, placing him in fifth. Goldberg climbed to the top of the leader board after posting back-to-back even par 72 scores on Wednesday and Thursday.
