San Diego State men's basketball head coach Steve Fisher announced the Aztecs' 2007-08 non-conference schedule on Tuesday. Highlighting the slate are six home games, three contests at the World Vision Classic in Fresno, Calif., and a trip to Anaheim, Calif., for the 14th Annual John R. Wooden Classic.
The Aztecs will have rematches against Arizona and Western Michigan, two of the three teams to defeat San Diego State in non-conference play last year.
SDSU will get things underway on Nov. 5, when it welcomes Point Loma Nazarene to Cox Arena for the Aztecs' lone exhibition contest of the season.
After its one-game tune-up, San Diego State travels to Fresno to participate in the World Vision Classic where it will take on Liberty on Nov. 9 to open the season. The next day, SDSU will oppose Portland (Nov. 10) and will close out the event at 2007 NIT participant Fresno State (Nov. 11) in what will be the Aztecs' third game in as many days.
San Diego State will take the court at Cox Arena for its home opener on Nov. 17 against UC San Diego. After its game vs. the Tritons, SDSU will embark on a three-game road trip that begins just west of Montezuma Mesa at San Diego. The Aztecs-Toreros contest is set for Nov. 19 and will precede SDSU's Nov. 24 trip to Berkeley, Calif., where it will take on California. The Scarlet and Black will then close out its longest road stretch of the season on Nov. 28 at Loyola Marymount.
The Aztecs will begin the month of December with two home games at Cox Arena. First, SDSU will look to avenge last season's loss to Western Michigan on Dec. 1 and then three days later play host to UC Riverside on Dec. 4.
Later in the week on Dec. 8, SDSU will play Saint Mary's in a neutral-site contest as part of the Wooden Classic at Honda Center in Anaheim before coming home to play Navy on Dec. 17 in a game televised nationally by CSTV.
With the Mountain West Conference schedule on the horizon, San Diego State will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a Dec. 22 match-up with 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Arizona. The Aztecs will then close out the calendar year with a home date with Sam Houston State in a Dec. 28 game televised by The Mtn.
SDSU will complete its non-conference season on Jan. 9, in the middle of the MWC play, when Northern Colorado visits Montezuma Mesa.
Overall, the Aztecs will play five road games where opponents had little luck last year as those teams (Fresno State, San Diego, California, Loyola Marymount, Arizona) won 67.1 percent (51-25) of their home games.
The five non-conference road games are the most for SDSU since the 2003-04 season when it played Chaminade, San Diego, Texas Tech, Arizona and Saint Mary's.
