SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's water polo coach Carin Crawford has announced the Aztecs' schedule for the 2009 season. The slate is highlighted by 15 home contests, including the Aztec Invitational (March 20-22) and four Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference games at home.
SDSU will kick off its campaign with its annual alumni scrimmage on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 12 p.m. PT at the Aztec Aquaplex. The first competition of the season will be Thursday, Feb. 5, when San Diego State plays host to Hartwick College, beginning at 2 p.m. The following day, the Aztecs will take on Marist College at 12:00 p.m.
The Scarlet and Black will then spend two weekends away, participating in the UCSD Invite (Feb. 7-8) and the UCI Invite (Feb. 21-22). San Diego State will also travel to Los Angeles take on UCLA in the MPSF opener on Friday, Feb. 13.
SDSU will return to The Mesa on Feb. 21 to take on UC Irvine. After a weekend of rest, the Aztecs will head back to the Aztec Aquaplex to play host to Long Beach State on March 1.
San Diego State begins a two week road trip on March 6 with a trip to Cal Lutheran, followed by the UCSB Tournament, March 7-8. The Aztecs will complete the road trip the following weekend by taking on California in a MPSF conference game (March 14) and UC Davis (March 15).
SDSU will once again play host to the third annual Aztec Invitational, March 20-22, at the Aztec Aquaplex. Between invitational play, the Aztecs will host San Jose State in a MPSF game on March 21, beginning at 10:30 a.m. San Diego State will then play host to two conference rivals, taking on Stanford and USC on March 25 and March 28, respectively.
After a pair of conference home games, San Diego State will continue MPSF play as it travels across the Pacific Ocean to take on Hawai'i on Friday, April 3.
The following weekend, SDSU returns the Aztec Aquaplex for a doubleheader on April 10 against Michigan (12:00 p.m.) and CS San Bernardino (2:00 p.m.). The next day, San Diego State will stay on The Mesa for their final MPSF competition against Arizona State on April 11, and will take a break from conference play to compete in the Harper Cup vs. UC San Diego on April 18.
The Aztecs will end their regular season at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference tournament April 26-29 in Hawaii.
