SDSU-BYU Postgame Quotes in PDF Format

San Diego State Head Coach Steve Fisher

From the postgame radio show

On the game:
"I am so proud of our team and how they competed and how they fought. BYU came out in the second half on fire and had about 14 points in three minutes. I didn't know if they were ever going to miss. But we fought and we had intelligent aggressiveness getting to the rim, to get 30 free throws and we finally started to make a few. It was a really good team victory for us.

"It really was a tough defensive effort. Lorrenzo was so hard to guard that he really created problems for the other team. He played like a man tonight. It was a much needed win for the conference. Tonight was really a team victory. Our fans were sensational. This is what gets you excited about wanting to do it again.

"I grew in my confidence that we were going to win this game as the second half went along and I know it did for our players."

On Lorrenzo Wade:
"He has such great vision and finds people when they move. He creates a lot of problems for people."

On the contribution of others:
"Chris Lamb came in and made a couple of good defensive stands and made a basket. I had been complaining to Kelvin (Davis) about his defense, but I thought it was as good as he has played from a concentration standpoint all season. For a team that was 2-for-12 from three-point range, this was a really fun evening."

On defending Brigham Young in the post:
"Ryan has a big body and what we said was don't try and let (Trent Plaisted) get to his sweet spot on the catch. Make him have to dribble it to get where he wants to go. What we did a nice job on was switching intelligently and we didn't give them a lot of wide open threes. The concentration, even when fatigue set in, was pretty good."

On Billy White:
"It looked like they had some baskets at the rim and Billy (White) wouldn't let it happen. He blocked their shot. He is so long and athletic and he is playing with the confidence now that goes with his ability. Billy is like a lot of young guys, when he gets tired he loses concentration and that did not happen tonight. He was huge tonight."

From the postgame news conference

Opening comments:
"This is really a terrific win for our kids, our fans and our program. We did a great job attacking on offense and getting to the free throw line. We did a better job, than we did at BYU, of guarding. We did a nice job in terms of how we guarded. This is a victory that five teams in the league were excited about, none more than Vegas. It was a really good win for us."

On the team's morale:
"I think our morale started to turn at Utah. We knew we had played well and with the type of togetherness that could win. Then we go to Wyoming and win which is extremely important. This solidifies what we have talked about, that we are capable of beating any team in this league. It gives us a two-game win streak and gives us some confidence and momentum going into the next one. We will see what it means on Tuesday but tonight we feel like we could conquer the world."

On Lorrenzo Wade:
"I thought Lorrenzo was outstanding at both ends of the floor. He sometimes has a tendency to take a possession off the defensive and I don't believe he did that tonight. He allowed everybody to grow in their confidence because he was so good. Not just making shots, but helping other people get opportunities. He really was good."

Junior forward Lorrenzo Wade

On the game:
"(BYU) is a strong team, but I knew that if I got the ball in positions to score, with me being bigger than those guys, it would be a lot easier for me than taking perimeter jump shots. I tried to stay poised and I waited to see if they were going to double team before I made a move. If they did double team, then I would try to kick the ball to one of my teammates. But all in all, it was one of those nights where our shots were falling and now we have to practice tomorrow to get ready for UNLV."

Freshman forward Billy White

On BYU's offensive struggles:
"Shots weren't falling for (BYU) and shots were falling for us. It was one of those days. We played hard on defense and that was the main key. When they tried to get the ball down low, we would double team them and then they would try to kick it back out, but we wouldn't let them."

BYU Head Coach Dave Rose

On the game:
"I just think that we battled and it was very similar to the game that we played at our place. (San Diego State) made a couple more plays than we did, but we battled.

"I think that they came out a lot more aggressive than we did. Like I said, we battled back and got to a point in the second half where we had a chance to take control of the game and then came up a couple plays short. It was a battle down the stretch."

On SDSU forward Lorrenzo Wade:
"I think that he had really good patience. They got him the ball in a lot of situations where he's tough to defend. I thought he was really patient and made good decisions."
