LONG BEACH, Calif. - The 10th-ranked San Diego State women's water polo team rebounded from Friday's loss by defeating Long Beach State, 8-5, at Campus Pool, on Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs improve to 8-3 on the season, while the 49ers watch their record fall to 3-6.
SDSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back. At the end of one half, the Aztecs found themselves up by a 4-1 margin.
In the third period, Long Beach State made a run at San Diego State with a pair of unanswered goals to get within 4-3, but the Aztecs slammed the door shut on the home team by scoring four of the next five goals to close out the game and head back to The Mesa with the victory.
Ashley Novack, Leanne Ford and Meaghan Poland all scored two goals for SDSU, while Sarah Brady and Jenna Natalizio each provided single tallies. Goalkeeper Kelly Campoli, meanwhile, made a game-high nine saves.
The Aztecs will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27, when they compete at the UCI Invitational.
