SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will be among a field of 14 elite men's college golf teams at the 32nd annual USC Collegiate Invitational at the par-71, 6,869-yard North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The two-day, 54-hole event begins with two rounds Monday, starting with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT.
The Aztecs, ranked 29th by golfstat.com, are one of two Mountain West Conference schools in the field, which also features seven Pac-10 teams, including six in the top 20 nationally in No. 2 Stanford, No. 6 Oregon, No. 8 UCLA, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 16 USC and No. 18 Oregon State.
SDSU seventh-year head coach Ryan Donovan will bring six golfers to Los Angeles, including juniors Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Matt Hoffenberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) and sophomores Colin Featherstone (Fallbrook, Calif.) and J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) and freshman Tom Berry (New Haw, England). Sophomore Andrew Cooley (New Haw, England) will also compete as an individual for the Aztecs.
San Diego State was seventh overall at last year's USC Invitational, posting a 26-over 878 at the same North Ranch Country Club. Carlsson and Spaun tied as the team's top finishers by coming in 18th at 4-over 217.
The Aztecs are two weeks removed from a fifth-place performance at the Battle at the Beach in Newport Coast, Calif.
