SAN DIEGO - The eighth-ranked San Diego State water polo team posted a pair of wins on the opening day of the 2010 Triton Invitational on the campus of UC San Diego. With wins over Redlands and No. 18 Cal State Bakersfield, the Aztecs improve to 6-1 on the season.
In its first game against Redlands, SDSU was dominant for a second straight game. The Aztecs held their first-round opponent to a team season-low three goals in posting a 15-3 win. The decision was San Diego State's second straight double-digit win.
Later in the afternoon, San Diego State returned to Canyonview Pool and was dominant once again in beating 18th-ranked Cal State Bakersfield, 12-3. The win put the Aztecs on track to defend its tournament title for a third straight season.
SDSU continues Triton Invitational action on Sunday when it faces Hartwick at 11:10 a.m. PT. If the Aztecs lose, they will play at 4:30 p.m. With a victory, San Diego State will play for the championship at 5:50 p.m.
