NCAA San Diego Regional Round 2 Results in PDF Format
Oregon, ranked No. 1 nationally, broke out of a four-way tie for first place Friday with a second round 290 to own a two-stroke lead over California at 8-over 584 at the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf San Diego Regional. Host San Diego State shaved 10 strokes off its first-round score to go from 10th into a tie for seventh place with a 294, moving its two-day total to 22-over 598, just two strokes out of sixth place at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Club.
Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio, who is competing as an individual, posted his second sub-par round of the tournament with a 69 to lead the 75-player field at 4-under 140. Oregon's Daniel Miernicki matched Delio's effort with a 69 and is tied with day one leader, UNLV's Eddie Olson for second place at 3-under 141. Four golfers are tied for fourth place at even-par 144.
Four of the five Aztecs improved their scores on day two, with freshman Tom Berry (New Haw, England) making the biggest jump from 40th all the way to 18th place with his even-par 72. Berry had three birdies after posting four in the first round and is currently at 4-over 148, just one stroke out of 13th and two out of the top 10.
SDSU's day one leader, Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), improved by one stroke with a 74, but still dropped slightly from 25th into a tie for 28th with a 149. Sophomore Andrew Cooley (New Haw, England) cut five strokes off his first round total with a 73 to move from 60th to 42nd place.
Sophomore J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) is tied for 50th at 8-over 152, including a 75 on Friday, while Colin Featherstone (Fallbrook, Calif.) is tied for 67th place at 13-over 157.
The third and final round Saturday gets underway a half an hour earlier than the first two days at 7:30 a.m. PT. The Aztecs will be paired with New Mexico State and UC Irvine starting from the 10th hole. The top five teams from the NCAA San Diego Regional and the low individual not on those squads qualify for the national championships slated for next month in Chattanooga, Tenn.

On the team's round:
"It was better - 10 shots better, which is very positive for the team. We came out strong today. We started off hungry and managed to make a few birdies down the stretch as well."
On what was different from yesterday's round:
"Yesterday was a little bit of a wake-up call. We realize that we didn't stick to the game plan that we had in mind, thinking that we've played out here quite a bit and that we were just going to be able to tee it up and post a number. Obviously, we needed to fight a little bit harder than that."
On what the team will have to do for tomorrow:
"We're going to stay positive again. We've got a lot of confidence in this group of guys. We're going to come out fighting and all we can do is put up the best number possible and add them up at the end."

On how he played today:
"It wasn't a bad day. I played pretty (well). We all got off to a pretty good start through the first five or six holes. We got some good energy and carried through. The back nine played a little difficult, but I managed to finish off on nine with a birdie, so even par was a pretty good score today."
On what was different from yesterday's round:
"I hit the ball a bit better today than I did yesterday. I had to be very patient out there. I hit it close quite a lot of times, but couldn't convert from 10 or 15 feet. I just kept knocking it there - kept doing what I was doing and didn't get too frustrated with myself and it all paid off I guess. I dropped a couple (strokes) early on the back nine and managed to get it back."
On what the team will have to do for tomorrow:
"As a team, we all have to play solid and at least a couple of us have to go pretty low. It's definitely out there. We play this course once a week and we have the guys on the team to do it."

On how the round went:
"I got off to a good start - a better start than yesterday. ... I was steady for the beginning of the day, but made double (bogey) on 12, which killed me, but then came right back with a birdie. (I) just didn't make as many putts as I did yesterday. Obviously, this game is all about putting and that was the difference. Yesterday was the epitome of a good putting round. That was the difference - I had 26 putts yesterday and 31 or 32 today.
On the golf course:
"It's a tough course where par isn't a bad score. I've been fortunate to make a bunch of birdies so far. I think tomorrow I need to make a few more putts if I'm going to help my team out and go for the individual title."
