OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - San Diego State assistant head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz, who is in her third season with the Aztecs, has been named an assistant coach for four USA Softball Women's National Team events this coming summer, the sport's governing body announced Thursday.
Nuveman Deniz will first serve as a coach at the Women's National Team Selection Camp in mid-June in Chula Vista, Calif. She will then be one of three assistants under head coach Ken Eriksen at the team's Plant City, Fla., Tour Stop on June 25, at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch Women's International Championship (July 9-17) and at the World Cup of Softball VI (July 21-25). The La Verne, Calif., native could also be tabbed to the staff for the Pan American Games, scheduled for Oct. 17-23, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The former UCLA standout earned one of 24 spots in the Women's National Team coaching pool earlier this year. She will continue her role as SDSU's recruiting coordinator, while also working predominately with the team's hitters. Nuveman Deniz has helped the Aztecs to two-straight NCAA Regional bids and a combined 67-36 (.650) record in her two previous seasons on The Mesa.
Nuveman Deniz is a three-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in 2000 and 2004, and silver at the 2008 games in Beijing. She was a four-time first-team NFCA All-American and three-time Pac-10 Player of the Year as a catcher at UCLA, finishing her career with four NCAA records with 90 home runs, 299 RBI, .945 slugging percentage and 240 walks.
