The San Diego State women's golf team finished out its final regular-season tournament by taking 16th place Sunday at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The 45th-ranked Aztecs posted a final-round 315 to end up with a 54-hole total of 63-over 915 at the par-71, 6,121-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) moved up the individual leaderboard for the second day in a row, carding a 76 to tie for 32nd place at 10-over 223. Enarsson had five bogeys and four pars on her opening nine holes, but then settled down on the front nine with two birdies, six pars and only two bogeys.
SDSU junior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) matched Enarsson's final-round 76, which allowed her to jump 11 spots into 46th with a 13-over 226. Wong opened with a bogey and then reeled off nine pars in a row. She had four bogeys over her next six holes which sandwiched four more pars.
The Aztecs' remaining three golfers were each unable to crack 80. Juniors Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) and Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) both ran into trouble finishing the round, as Knight went from six to 11-over with a quadruple bogey and a bogey and Clark was 5-over until posting a nine on the par-4 ninth hole for an 81. Freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) wrapped up the three-day event in a tie for 85th place with a 26-over 239, including a final-round 85.
Top-ranked UCLA maintained its lead with a 12-stroke victory over No. 5 and tournament host Arizona State with a 5-over 857. Bruin Ani Gulugian and UC Davis' Demi Runas shared medalist honors as each finished at 1-under 212.
San Diego State will take nearly three weeks off to prepare for the 2012 Mountain West Championships, which will be played for the second consecutive year at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz., April 20-22.
