SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's water polo junior Amber Pezzolla was named to the all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Second Team and senior Kelly Campoli earned All-MPSF honorable mention honors, the league announced Tuesday. The 2012 campaign marks the third consecutive year in which Pezzolla has been recognized by the MPSF, while it is the fourth year in a row for Campoli.
In Pezzolla's third year at SDSU, she played in 32 of 33 games and notched a team-high 65 goals, a team- and career-high 80 steals and 38 assists, which were tied for the second most on the team. The San Dimas, Calif., native tallied an Aztec individual game-high with six goals vs. Redlands (April 14) and scored multiple goals on 21 different occasions. At the MPSF level, the junior ranked fifth in goals per game (2.03) and her 65 goals were the second most among conference players. Pezzolla also led SDSU in scoring 10 times over the course of the 2012 season. So far in her Aztec career, she has tallied 158 goals, 234 steals and 124 assists.
Campoli entered her final season on The Mesa as the school's all-time leader in saves and added to her total this year. The Lake Forest, Calif., native played in all 33 games this season and tallied 378 saves and 31 steals. The senior led the MPSF in saves per game with 12.00 and her 378 stops were also tops in the league. Campoli has played in 128 total games and has made 1,337 saves in her Aztec career.
The two San Diego State honorees mark the sixth consecutive season in which multiple Aztecs have earned all-conference accolades.
SDSU recently finished its season with a record of 22-11, its school-record seventh consecutive 20-win campaign.
