SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State head swimming and diving coach Mike Shrader has announced the signing of four athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season. That group includes three freshmen and one transfer.
Sprint freestyle specialist Maddy Dalcamo (Wiebe) will arrive at SDSU after spending the past two seasons at the University of Wisconsin. Her top collegiate times includes 23.72 in the 50 free and 50.48 in the 100 free, both set at the 2011 Big Ten Championships. As a prep athlete at Olathe (Kan.) High School, Dalcamo was a three-time state champion in the 100 free and a two-time state champ in the 50 free. She captured the Sunflower League title in the 50 all four years and was named the Swimmer of the State Meet on two occasions.
Whitney Weisz comes to the Aztecs from Little Falls (Minn.) High School after winning the championship at the state 1A meet with a personal best time of 50.57. She was undefeated in that event during the 2011 season and also placed second in the 50 free (23.23) at the state meet. She earned All-America honors in both the 50 and 100 free and was an all-state selection all four years as a prep athlete. In addition, Weisz was a four-time section champion in the 100 free and three-time section winner in the 50 free.
Erin Parrett was a member of University High School's (Irvine, Calif) team that won three straight CIF section titles. She competed on the school's 200 free relay team that won all-county honors and set the school record. She was also on a pair of 200 medley relay squads that recorded the second and third-fastest times in program history. Erin is the sister of former Aztec swimmer Lauren Parrett.
The fourth recruit is Kelsey Jenkinson, who most recently was a member of the Rhenish Girls' High School team in Stellenbosch, South Africa, that won its provincial championship each of the past four years. Primarily a breaststroke specialist, she has recorded top long course times of 1:12.2 in the 100m breast and 2:36.2 in the 200m breast. Jenkinson recently competed in the South African Long Course Nationals (April 12-22) where she finished fifth in the 50m (33.64) and 100 m (1:12.20) breast events as well as seventh in the 200 m breast (2:36.39) while helping her Western Province Aquatics team to a fourth-place (of 15 teams) finish.
These four signees join five other swimmers who inked NLIs with San Diego State this past fall. In addition, the Aztecs will also add a trio of divers to the pair they signed in November including transfer Ashley Stott (Cal State San Marcos; Great Oaks HS; Temecula, Calif.) plus freshmen Ali Gill (Poway HS: Poway, Calif.) and Kelsey Bean (Pomperaug HS: Southbury, Conn.).
