WOODLAND, Calif. - Three San Diego State women's water polo student-athletes earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic accolades, the league announced on Wednesday. Seniors Leanne Ford and Kelly Campoli garnered honors for the third consecutive season, while junior Alex Ford was honored for the second straight year.
Leanne Ford has helped SDSU maintain its position as a national player on the water polo scene. The Upland, Calif., native is a 2011 All-American and has played in 133 career games and tallied 162 goals, 69 assists and 176 steals. Her 162 goals are the eighth-most in program history and her 176 steals rank eighth in the Aztec career record book.
Campoli entered her final season on The Mesa as the school's all-time leader in saves and added to her total this season. The Lake Forest, Calif., native played all 33 games this season and tallied 378 saves and 31 steals. The senior led the MPSF in saves per game with 12.00 and her 378 stops were also tops in the league. Campoli has played in 128 total games and has made 1,337 saves in her Aztec career.
Alex Ford has been an instrumental part of SDSU's success, having played in every game since arriving on Montezuma Mesa in 2010. The Chino Hills, Calif., native has tallied 62 goals, 99 assists and 203 steals in 104 career games.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, must be a sophomore academically, must have completed one full academic year at the school prior to this season, and must have competed in 50 percent or more of the institution's contests.
SDSU recently finished its season with a record of 22-11, its school-record seventh consecutive 20-win campaign.
