SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's cross country team earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA on Thursday based on its most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. This award is given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport.

The Aztecs had a perfect four-year APR score of 1,000. SDSU's unblemished multi-year total is based on scores from the 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years.

The cross country program was also in the top 10 percent when the 2004-05 academic year was the last of the four-year cycle.

In addition to cross country's two Public Recognition Awards, San Diego State's women's golf (2007-08) and women's volleyball (2009-10) teams have finished in the top 10 percent of their respective sports in the past.

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
