SAN DIEGO - Rachel Mitchell, an incoming San Diego State freshman, has been named to the USA Water Polo Youth National Team, head coach Kyle Kopp announced last week.
A native of Danville, Calif., Mitchell signed a National Letter of Intent last November with the Aztecs. Mitchell is one of two goalkeepers on the 15-player roster that is set to travel to Hungary later this month.
"Rachel has the maturity and composure, combined with high-level playing experience, to come in and compete right away," SDSU head coach Carin Crawford said at the time of her signing. "She has size, solid fundamentals and strong leadership skills to bring to the goalie position. She plays with great composure and confidence, and she will be a strong asset to our program."
Mitchell is a part of six-member signing class that is slated to step foot on campus in the fall.
SDSU completed the 2012 campaign ranked eighth nationally and compiled a record of 22-11, its school-record seventh consecutive 20-win season.
