SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team competes in its second tournament of the fall campaign this weekend, when it travels to the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational, Sept. 23-25, in Alpharetta, Ga. This year's event will be held at the par-70, 7,248 yard Crabapple Course located at Capital City Club.

The 54-hole event will get underway at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday and will run through Tuesday with 18 holes being contested each day. The event offers live scoring on golfstat.com.

The Aztecs, who are ranked 17th nationally in the latest coaches' poll, will be facing some of the nation's top squads. Along with No. 7 and host Georgia Tech, the field includes seven other top-10 teams including No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 California, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Washington, No. 8 Arkansas and No. 10 Texas A&M. Two other Mountain West schools will also be there in No. 13 UNLV and No. 23 New Mexico.

Tenth-year head coach Ryan Donovan will alter his starting five just slightly from a week ago, adding in freshmen Robert Gojuangco (San Diego, Calif.) and Gunn Yang (Pyeong Chang, South Korea) with senior Tom Berry (New Haw, England), sophomore Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Riccardo Michelini (Carpi, Italy).

Last weekend, the Aztecs finished in fifth place in their season-opening event with a 24-over 888, at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational in Bremerton, Wash. SDSU had three players finish in the top 25 at the par-72, 7,124-yard Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

Berry finished tied for sixth place with an overall score of 1-over 217, while Schauffele had a solid first outing, tying for 18th place overall with a 6-over 222. Following closely behind was Michelini, who was the third player in the top 25, tying for 22nd place at 7-over (223).

San Diego State will be back in action on Oct. 15-16, at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
