SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team moved up to No. 6 in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. The ranking is now the highest ever achieved by an Aztec women's soccer squad, bettering the previous high of No. 7 accomplished last week.

"It's exciting to be ranked as high as we are right now," head coach Mike Friesen said. "The one that's probably the most exciting for us is the RPI at 6, which gives us a chance, if we can continue with what we've been doing, to host multiple rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the coaches, but at the same time we want to be focused on our process, which has been every day, win games, focus on the next one at hand, and through all that try and enjoy it, as well, which is tough sometimes."

The Aztecs still also sit at No. 3 in the NSCAA Pacific Region poll, trailing only UCLA (2) and Stanford (1). Fellow MW member UNLV is also in the rankings at No. 9.

San Diego State, which moved up to No. 16 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's field of 64, continued Mountain West play last weekend as it earned a 2-1 win against UNLV on Friday and then picked up a 3-1 victory over Fresno State on Sunday. The Aztecs are now 14-1-1, which marks the fourth-best win percentage (.906) in the NCAA this season.

SDSU's success resulted in an Aztec receiving MW Player of the Week accolades for the eighth week this season. Megan Jurado garnered honors on Monday for the third time in 2012 after tallying the game-winning goals against UNLV and Fresno State and notching assists on the team's other goals.

The Aztecs return to action on Friday as they play host to Wyoming. The conference showdown is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start at SDSU Sports Deck.
