SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's golf head coach Ryan Donovan announced the signing Thursday of Ricky DeSantis (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) to a National Letter of Intent. DeSantis will join the Aztecs in the fall of 2013.
"We are very excited to add Ricky DeSantis to our Aztec golf program," Donovan said. "Ricky was a top recruit and to keep him here in San Diego was our main goal from the beginning. He has the skills to be an immediate impact player and he has leadership qualities, which truly stand out. Ricky has an impressive GPA and I know he will succeed in the classroom and on the golf course at San Diego State."
A senior at Carlsbad High School, DeSantis finished second at the 2012 Callaway/Scholastic Junior Golf Championship at Morgan Run Club and Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., where he carded a 36-hole total of 137. DeSantis earned both first-team all-CIF and all-North County League honors.
"I couldn't be more excited about becoming an Aztec," DeSantis said. "I really connected with Coach Donovan on my visits and chose SDSU because it provides me with everything I could possible need to reach my full potential. The facilities, coach and support from the community are unmatched. I can't wait to be a part of a team that will be competing at the highest level and for national championships."
The Aztecs, who ended the 2012-13 fall campaign ranked 58th nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, resume action on Feb. 18-20, when the team travels to La Quinta, Calif., for The Prestige at PGA West.
