CORONA DEL MAR, Calif. - No. 18 San Diego State dropped the second of two games on Saturday at the UCI Invitational when it found itself on the wrong end of a 10-6 score at Corona del Mar High School. The loss evens the Aztecs' record at 5-5 with two more games to play at the invitational.
The first two quarters were identical in favor of the Rainbow Wahine as UH scored three goals apiece while holding SDSU to single tallies.
Facing a 6-2 deficit at halftime, San Diego State allowed three more goals in the third quarter while being unable to find the back of the net. The Aztecs' offense came alive in the final eight minutes as they scored four times, but their effort was not enough as they eventually lost by four.
Ioli Benekou led San Diego State with two goals, while Nikole Ferrari, Carina Carballo, Anique Hermann and Katy Schneider each scored one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Rachel Mitchell made a game-high 12 stops.
SDSU returns to action on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. PT when they face Pacific at Corona del Mar High School.
