The San Diego State women's tennis team picked up its second win in three days by defeating San Jose State, 5-2, on Sunday at Aztec Tennis Center. The win lifts SDSU's conference record to 3-1 and 9-10 overall.
The match got underway with doubles action as Laura Antonaña Iriarte and Isabelle Hoorn defeated Sabastian Leon Chao and Justine Deleval in the third spot, 8-4. In second doubles, Kristin Buth and Kennedy Davis could not hang on against Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett, 8-4. On the first court, Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey clinched the doubles point for San Jose State by topping Dora Somorcaz and Hailey Johnson, 8-6.
In singles competition Buth evened out the score by downing Rey in the second position, 6-1, 6-2. No. 35 Antonaña Iriarte put the Aztecs out in front by dismissing Klcoker in first singles, 6-3, 6-1. On court No. 5, Somorcaz brought San Diego State within one point of victory by getting past Willett, 6-3, 6-3. In sixth singles, Hoorn claimed the league victory for SDSU as she defeated Deleval, 7-6 (3), 6-4. The fourth position saw the only dropped singles decision as Davis fell short to Bacelar, 6-4, 6-2. In third singles, Tami Nguyen walked away with the win over Leon Chao after the Spartan was forced to retire in the third set, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0.
The Aztecs will get back on the courts at Aztec Tennis Center on Wednesday at 2 pm as they take on San Francisco.
