LA JOLLA, Calif. - Preparing for its revamped home tournament in less than two weeks, the San Diego State women's golf team got its first taste of match-play competition this season on Wednesday, defeating Yale 4-1 in a dual meet at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

The Aztecs claimed four victories in the best-of-five series, while two unattached golfers also emerged triumphant on the renowned par-72, 6,153-yard South Course.

At the top of the lineup, junior Emma Henrikson, who is currently ranked 48th in the nation by Golfstat, defeated the Bulldogs' top starter Elisabeth Bernabe, 2 & 1, while sophomore Sirene Blair, fresh off a runner-up effort at the Bruin Wave Invitational last week, dispatched Shreya Ghei, 2-up.

In addition, SDSU received a pair of wins by freshman Mila Chaves and senior Paige Spiranac to secure its team victory. Chaves trumped Marika Liu, 4 & 3, while Spiranac breezed past Jayshree Sarathy, 6 & 5.

Wednesday's event also included two individual matches, with freshman Haleigh Krause, defeating Yale's Sara Garmezy, 5 & 3, while senior Amy Alston finished off Caroline Rouse 3 & 2.

The 26th-ranked Aztecs will return to tournament action later this month when they play host to the SDSU Farms Invitational, March 23-25, at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The third annual event will feature 18 holes of stroke play, followed by two days of match play.
