LOS ANGELES - San Diego State water polo sophomore utility Caroline Israels has been named the Golden Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. She shares her second career honor with Pacific's Brydie Pye.
A native of Pompano Beach, Florida, Israels tallied 12 goals, four assists and nine steals, in helping SDSU post a 3-1 record last week in Los Angeles. Within her weekly stats were three hat tricks and four multi-goal performances.
In the conference game at LMU, Israels posted a game-high-tying three goals, one assist and one steal to propel the Aztecs to a 9-8 victory over the 12th-ranked Lions. The decision moved San Diego State to 4-0 in league play to further strengthen its hold on first place.
After the game, the Aztecs entered LMU Invitational action where Israels scored another three goals to lead all players, while adding two assists and a team-high three steals in the 12-6 win vs. Concordia. Later that day, the sophomore recorded four goals and two steals in just three quarters of action in SDSU's 11-5 triumph over Brown. Israels closed tournament action with a pair of goals, one assist and three steals in a narrow 7-5 loss to Michigan.
Israels' player-of-the-week award is the third of 2015 for San Diego State, which pulls it into a tie with LMU for the most weekly honors this season. Anique Hermann was recognized on Feb. 11, and was followed by Alyssa Diacono on March 11.
The 19th-ranked Aztecs return to action this week with a pair of non-conference games at the University of Hawai'i. SDSU will face No. 1 UCLA on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. HT before taking on the Rainbow Wahine on Sunday at noon HT.
