HONOLULU - No. 19 San Diego State was unable to pull the upset as it fell, 8-2, to sixth-ranked Hawai'i on Sunday afternoon at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex on the campus of the University of Hawai'i. The loss drops the Aztecs to 13-14 on the year.
UH was a model of consistency as it scored two goals in each of the game's four quarters. The Rainbow Wahine struck first, but Caroline Israels, the Golden Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week, leveled the score. At the end of eight minutes, SDSU found itself behind, 2-1.
The Aztecs, however, would experience an offensive drought in the middle two quarters as they could not find the back of the net. Hawai'i, meanwhile, increased its lead, moving ahead, 6-1, entering the fourth period.
Israels cut the UH lead to 7-2 with just under five minutes to play, but San Diego State could not muster enough offense the rest of the way to ultimately fall by six.
SDSU, which is in first place in the Golden Coast, returns to action on Friday, April 10, when it plays host to GCC foe Azusa Pacific at Aztec Aquaplex. First sprint is set for 3 p.m. PT.
