SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore center Alyssa Diacono has been named the Golden Coast Player of the Week for the second time this season. The award is the fourth of 2015 for SDSU, which equals the most in the league this season.
Hailing from Ladera Ranch, Diacono helped the Aztecs post a 2-0 record in home games vs. conference foes Azusa Pacific and Santa Clara, which clinched the school's second straight GCC regular-season title.
In the game vs. APU, Diacono broke a 5-5 tie with a goal 30 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Aztecs never trailed the rest of the way in a 9-8 victory. She ultimately finished with three goals (3-for-5 shooting), one steal and one drawn ejection.
Against SCU, Diacono scored a pair of first-quarter goals to give SDSU a 4-1 lead after eight minutes and added one right before halftime to propel the Aztecs to an 8-3 halftime advantage. At the final horn of a 15-9 win, she tallied three goals on three shot attempts, one steal and one drawn ejection, which led to a San Diego State goal.
For the week, Diacono finished with a team-high-tying six goals on 6-of-8 shooting (.750), two steals and two drawn ejections.
