SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's water polo head coach Carin Crawford announced Wednesday that Marina Daroca Bazán has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Aztecs. Hailing from Barcelona, Spain, she will arrive on campus for the 2015-16 academic year and compete for SDSU in 2016.
"Marina Daroca Bazán is an athletic, quick, left-handed attacker," Crawford said. "Marina will help our team develop a well-balanced attack with her excellent pool vision and strong shooting ability. We are excited to welcome her to the Aztec Family for the 2015-16 season."
While in Spain, Daroca Bazán played her club water polo for Club Natació Sant Andreu and competed in the regional championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In her final year, she and Club Natació Sant Andreu finished in fourth place at the 2013 Spain National Championship.
Daroca Bazán then moved to the United States where she first attended Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, earning a varsity letter in 2014. Following her one year in Santa Barbara County, she transferred to JSerra Catholic High in San Juan Capistrano where she was the 2015 most valuable player and an all-Trinity League second-team honoree for Coach Julie Swail Ertel, a 2000 Olympian in water polo.
Daroca Bazán, who has international summer tournament and training session experience dating to 2012, will join an Aztec program that has won back-to-back Golden Coast Conference regular-season titles and will look to capture the GCC tournament crown this weekend in Stockton.
