SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Caroline Israels has been named a 2015 Honorable Mention All-American by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The honor marks the 20th straight season in which an Aztec has earned All-America recognition.
The utility from Pompano Beach, Florida enjoyed a career season that featured a 61 goals, 53 steals and 18 assists, all of which were personal records. Israels led SDSU and was second in the Golden Coast Conference in goals scored, while ranking second among all Aztecs in steals (t-4th in GCC).
Voted the 2015 GCC Co-Player of the Year, Israels scored in 27 of San Diego State's 31 games and produced 21 multi-goal games. Against Santa Clara in the conference finale, Israels scored an Aztec season-high five goals to propel SDSU to a 15-9 win and secure the school's second consecutive outright GCC regular-season championship.
With Israels' All-America distinction, San Diego State is slated to return four All-Americans in 2016. Joining Israels will be 2014 All-Americans Ioli Benekou (defender), Alyssa Diacono (center) and Rachel Mitchell (goalkeeper). The quartet will look to continue SDSU's dominance in the Golden Coast as the Aztecs have posted a 12-0 GCC record in the league's two years of existence.
