WORLD CUP OF SOFTBALL X

The San Diego State softball team has two players competing at the World Cup of Softball X at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif., starting today. Junior Stefania Aradillas (Mexico City) and freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) will represent Mexico and the USA Junior National Team, respectively, over the seven-day competition.

Mexico and the USA Junior Women are joined by the USA Senior National Team, Argentina, Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Each team will play each other in a round-robin format from June 29-July 4, before a seeded final day ends the competition on July 5.

Aradillas appeared in eight games last year in her first season with the Aztecs with one start, batting .111 (1-for-9) with an RBI, a run, two walks and a .250 on-base percentage. She mainly played second base for SDSU.

Peres, meanwhile, hit .347 (58-for-167) with nine home runs, 48 RBIs, 30 runs and 11 doubles, while posting a .575 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base mark. A catcher, Peres was a second-team all-NFCA West Region selection, the MW Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-MW pick in 2015.

SDSU associate head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz is also representing the U.S. Junior National Team as an assistant coach.
