SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) and associate head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz recently led the USA Junior National Team to a fifth-place finish at the World Cup of Softball X in Irvine, Calif. Junior Stefania Aradillas (Mexico City) also helped Mexico take sixth at the event, which took place from June 29-July 5.

Peres appeared in five games, batting .250 (2-for-8) with a homer, RBI, four runs and a walk, owning a .625 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage. Additionally, she was perfect in the field in 10 chances. The USA Junior Women went 3-4 in the round-robin format, before defeating Mexico, 6-5, in the fifth-place game on July 5.

Nuveman Deniz was an assistant coach with the USA Junior Women.

Aradillas, meanwhile, hit .375 (3-for-8) with an RBI over five appearances for Mexico. She posted a .444 on-base percentage and was perfect in the field in five opportunities. After starting the World Cup by losing its first three contests, Mexico rallied by winning three of its final four, before falling to the USA Junior Women, 6-5, in the July 5 fifth-place game.

The USA Senior Women won the eight-team event, followed by Japan, Puerto Rico, Canada, USA Junior Women, Mexico, Venezuela and Argentina.

After playing in a pair of exhibition games in Hillsboro, Ore., on July 7, the USA Junior Women will be back in action from Aug. 9-15 at the XI WBSC Junior Women's World Championship in Oklahoma City.
