SAN DIEGO - Five San Diego State water polo student-athletes earned all-academic honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The five award winners mirror last season's total and ties for the second-most since a school-record six were recognized in 2012.
Rising junior Alyssa Diacono landed on the Outstanding team, which is comprised of student-athletes who posted a GPA between 4.00-3.71. This marks the second straight year in which Diacono has been honored and the second time she has been an Outstanding performer. In addition, this represents the first time since the 1999 and 2000 awards where San Diego State has had at least one Outstanding performer in back-to-back years.
Following her academic performance in the 2014-15 school year, Anique Hermann also earned honors as part of the Superior list, composed of those who turned in a GPA between 3.70-3.41. It is the fourth-straight year Hermann has received this award (2012 Outstanding, 2013 Superior, 2014 Outstanding).
Two others landing a spot on the Superior squad were rising senior Nika Sedghi and Carina Carballo. Sedghi was recognized for the second-straight year while Carballo rounds out her collegiate career by making the list in all four of her seasons on Montezuma Mesa.
Rising senior Taylor Gums, meanwhile, picked up her second straight Excellent award, which honors student-athletes with GPAs in the 3.40-3.20 range.
All five Aztecs were a part of a 2015 San Diego State squad that won its second straight Golden Coast Conference regular-season championship. SDSU also finished in a tie for 16th nationally in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association top-20 poll.
