SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State water polo standout Carina Carballo is set to play professionally in France for Union Saint Bruno Bordeaux. Carballo will continue her playing career just months after completing her four-year eligibility atop Montezuma Mesa.
A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Carballo last season helped the Aztecs successfully defend their Golden Coast regular-season title by recording 13 goals, 11 assists and 46 steals, while playing all 32 games. In four years at SDSU, which covered 129 games, Carballo posted 50 goals, 44 assists and 127 steals.
After graduating from San Diego State, the four-time national all-academic team performer went on to play for Mexico in the Pan Am Games in Toronto in early July. Carballo started all five games and scored two goals as Mexico finished in sixth place in an eight-team field.
Carballo was a part of a 2015 Aztec squad that won 17 games and won its second straight GCC regular-season crown by going 6-0 in league action. SDSU also finished in a tie for 16th nationally in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association top-20 poll.
