LOS ANGELES - San Diego State senior driver Anique Hermann was named the Golden Coast Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday, Feb. 11. The award is the first of the season for SDSU and Hermann's second of her career.
A product of Torrey Pines High School, Hermann helped SDSU to a 3-2 record last week. The Aztecs beat Hartwick in their season opener at home last Thursday before going 2-2 at the UCSD Triton Invitational. San Diego State beat No. 18 UC Santa Barbara and lost to No. 5 Arizona State on the first day of action. During the tournament's final day, SDSU fell to No. 12 UC San Diego before closing with another victory over Hartwick.
For the week, Hermann led the team in scoring (13 goals) and steals (10), and ranked second in assists (4) and third in ejections drawn (5). She scored multiple goals in three contests and scored in all five games, while leading the team in scoring on three different occasions.
In the first game against Hartwick, she posted four goals and two assists, one of which led to the game-winner. Then vs. the Gauchos, Hermann scored the game-winner and added one assist and five steals before recording one goal and one assist against the Sun Devils. She ended the weekend with three goals and an assist vs. the Tritons, and four goals and three steals vs. the Hawks.
Hermann and the Aztecs begin their GCC regular-season title defense on Friday when they face Fresno Pacific on the road. First sprint is set for 7 p.m. PT.
