SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team has announced the signing of Cornelius Kolb (Frankfurt, Germany) for the 2016 dual season, head coach Gene Carswell announced.
On the ITF Pro Circuit in July 2015, Kolb advanced to the qualifying draw final at the Future Trier and the qualifying draw's second round at the Future Essen. On the Junior Circuit, he advanced to the third round of qualifying at the 2015 NRW Junior Open, the 2014 HEAD Cup Bruchköbel qualifying draw winner, earning a victory in the first round of the main draw, and won the qualifying draw at the 2014 ITF Juniors Luxembourg.
Additionally, Kolb is a three-time men's district champion for Frankfurt, finished third at the 2014 U18 Federal State Championships and won the 2015 Amadeus Fire Cup.
The Aztecs were recently ranked No. 38 by Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) to start 2016, the team's highest position since SDSU began the season at No. 28 in 2003. San Diego State's 2015-16 squad featured six returning letterwinners and three newcomers in freshmen Raul de la Torre, Sander Gjoles-Anderson and Cornelius Kolb. The Aztecs kick off their 2016 dual match season with the National Collegiate Tennis Classic Jan. 15-17 in Palm Desert, Calif.
