LOS ANGELES - San Diego State water polo junior utility Caroline Israels was named to the NCAA Championship all-tournament second team, the NCAA announced late Sunday.
A native of Pompano Beach, Florida, Israels led the Aztecs with four goals over three games at the Championship site in Los Angeles. In SDSU's quarterfinal game vs. USC, Israels led the team with two goals and duplicated her effort the next day vs. Arizona State. In the Aztecs' game against UC Santa Barbara, she was the team's main offensive threat, taking a team-high seven shots.
Prior to San Diego State's arrival in Los Angeles, the Aztecs faced Wagner in an NCAA play-in game. In SDSU's 7-4 win, Israels produced one goal, one assist and one steal.
Israels follows in the footsteps of two other Aztecs who garnered NCAA all-tournament accolades. In SDSU's first appearance in 2007, Anna Gonzales was named to the second team. A season later, Gonzales and Jenna Schuster were selected as second-team honorees.
